Die Diskussion über die Notwendigkeit einer Dekolonisierung von Wissensproduktion sowie eines kritischen Nachdenkens über „epistemic violence“ (G. Ch. Spivak) wurde in den letzten Jahren zu einem zentralen Aspekt des postkolonialen Diskurses. Daraus kann ein klarer Auftrag an den universitären Bereich abgeleitet werden, und so thematisiert das Symposium die Bedingungen von „Decolonising of Knowledges“ speziell an Kunstuniversitäten sowie im Kunst- und Kulturbereich.
Unter dem Aspekt des Verhältnisses zwischen Wissen und Macht wird ein „Meeting of Knowledges“ in den Blick genommen und die Möglichkeit von „Decolonising ‚World Music'“ als kritisches Reframing der Musiken der Welt im Kontext aktueller Praktiken, Kämpfe und Bedingungen von Produktion und Rezeption ausgelotet.
Mit Vorträgen von José Jorge de Carvalho (Brasília), María do Mar Castro Varela (Berlin), Michael Birenbaum Quintero (Boston) und Gabriele Klein (Hamburg).
Workshop: South-Eastern Vocal Styles; Concert: Kurdophone.

The discussion about the need for a decolonisation of knowledge production and critical reflection on „epistemic violence“ as described by G. Ch. Spivak has become a central aspect of the postcolonial discourse in recent years. Assuming that this need is also an urgent and ongoing task in academia, the symposium wishes to elaborate the conditions for a „Decolonising of Knowledges“ particularly at art universities and in the artistic and cultural field.
Investigating the relations between knowledge and power, it looks into the proposal of a „Meeting of Knowledges“ and suggests „Decolonising ‚World Music'“ as a way of critically re-framing the musics of the world in the context of current practices, struggles and conditions of production and consumption.
